Appliance Conversion
Cooktops – Gas Range – Dryers
Yes – that’s right, all of the above appliances are sold with orifice sizes that are intended to run on natural gas. If you use propane – this is not a reasonable equivalent. Here’s why:
· Propane is delivered at a higher pressure than natural gas.
· Propane contains more energy per cubic foot than natural gas.
· Natural gas orifices are larger than propane, this is to allow extra fuel through at a lower pressure.
· Propane would be wasted by unnecessarily flowing through an orifice that is intended for natural gas.
· This causes an in-efficient burner, thus creating soot, and will inevitably destroy the equipment.
An LP conversion kit may be included in the purchase with your appliance. In our experience, this varies depending on where the appliance was purchased – not all companies are the same. It is a good idea to ask their sales representative if it comes with the conversion kit.
